PALO ALTO, CA -- Benchmark Capital co-founder Andrew Rachleff is bringing a venture capital approach to funding cancer research.

Rachleff and his wife Debra have created an innovative program that provides seed funds to scientists looking to work on high-risk, out of the box ideas.

Teaming up with the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, the Rachleff's are providing $5 million in funding to look for "home runs" instead of the more typical "base hits" that traditional research funding tries to achieve.
